What makes a password strong

Two things: length and unpredictability. A long password built from random characters is far harder to crack than a short clever one. Every extra character multiplies the number of possible combinations, which is why a 16-character password is dramatically stronger than an 8-character one — not just twice as strong.

Why random beats clever

Swapping letters for symbols in a real word ("P@ssw0rd") barely helps, because attackers' tools already know those tricks. Genuine randomness, like the strings this tool produces, has no pattern to guess. That is the whole point of a generator.

This runs entirely in your browser

Your password is generated locally using your device's secure random number generator. Nothing is sent over the internet, logged, or stored. Close the tab and it is gone — so copy it somewhere safe, ideally a password manager.

Tips for staying safe

Use a different password everywhere

If one site is breached, unique passwords stop the damage spreading to your other accounts.

Use a password manager

It remembers long random passwords for you, so you only need to recall one master password.

Turn on two-factor authentication

Even a strong password is stronger with a second step on your most important accounts.
