Made by a driver, for drivers

SolveSmart was not born in a marketing agency. It was born from personal spreadsheets — the monthly math a TVDE driver in Portugal did to figure out whether the work was really paying off, after fuel, commissions, Social Security and IRS. SolveSmart is maintained by Usman, a TVDE driver active in the Porto area, driving on both Uber and Bolt. The site started as a personal tool and grew into a collection of free calculators.

Why these calculators exist

Anyone driving for Uber or Bolt knows the earnings figure the app shows is not what stays in your pocket at the end of the month. The TVDE calculators on this site — monthly income, cost per km, VAT, Social Security — were built from real accounts, by someone living the same reality: deciding whether a given trip is worth accepting, and how much to set aside for taxes before they arrive by surprise.

What you will find here

Besides the TVDE guides and calculators, the site covers everyday finance in Portugal: salary and hourly pay, IRS and IRS Jovem, IMT and stamp duty, Euribor and loan payments, fuel costs. Every tool follows the same idea: a direct answer, no registration, and no result hidden behind a contact form.

How we keep the numbers right

TVDE tax and licensing rules change fairly often. Some articles link to the official source for their figures — IMT, Social Security, Portal das Finanças — so you can confirm current values instead of blindly trusting a number that may have gone out of date. Each tool page explains, in plain language, how its result is worked out.

Who the calculators are for

Two groups, two different questions. TVDE drivers come with a trip to judge, a month to tot up, or a tax bill to prepare for. Everyone else comes with an everyday finance question in Portugal — pay, tax, a loan, a house purchase. The build is the same for both, as described above: a direct answer, no registration, nothing held back.

How to use them

Enter your own numbers, read the result, then read the explanation underneath it. The explanation is the check: the result only holds for the values you entered, so change the km, the rate or the term and the answer changes with it. If the working does not make sense for your situation, do not copy the number. Treat every figure as current for the rules described on its page, and confirm anything that decides real money before acting on it.

What the calculators do not do

They are estimates to help you plan, not tax or legal advice, and they do not replace the official return or confirmation from Finanças, Social Security or your accountant. Results depend on the values you enter — and on rules that can change.
